Beloved British film giant, Alan Rickman, dies at 69.

British actor Alan Rickman lost his battle to cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by his family, his family’s statement advised.  Rickman was best known for his popular films,  including  the Harry Potter franchise, Die Hard, Truly Madly Deeply and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Rickman was one of Britain’s best-loved stars,  thanks to popular roles, including Professor Snape in the Harry Potter franchise, and Hans Gruber in Die Hard. He  won a Bafta Award for playing the Sheriff of Nottingham in 1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Many recognize Rickman from portraying villains, such as Judge Turpin in 2007’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. However, Rickman was multi-faceted and displayed a softer side in Truly Madly Deeply,  Sense and Sensibility and Love Actually.


In addition to acting, Rickman had directorial credits in The Winter Guest and A Little Chaos. Furthermore, Rickman was heralded for his stage work, particularly Les Liaisons Dangereuses , Private Lives, Cleopatra and John Gabriel Borkman .


His is a talent that will truly be missed. By Grabthar’s Hammer, Alan Rickman will be remembered. Always.
